Congratulations to the RACS

Posted by Marcus McCarthy | 03 November 2017 | News & Events

Congratulations to the RACS’ Fast Track Program being selected as a finalist for the Australian Human Rights Commission Law Award!

“We know that disadvantage is one of the great barriers to accessing important services such as legal assistance, and these finalists have helped thousands of people overcome that hurdle,” said Commission President, Emeritus Professor Rosalind Croucher.

“The sheer calibre of entries was remarkable and once again our judges found it challenging to narrow it down to just five finalists,” said Professor Croucher.

We are pleased to have helped with this, with our Head of Construction & Infrastructure, Belinda Crosbie, volunteering for RACS.

About RACS

The Refugee Advice and Casework Service (RACS) is an independent community legal centre based in NSW.

For 30 years, RACS has been providing free, specialist legal assistance to people seeking asylum in Australia. The work that the RACS Fast Track Response Team has contributed to respond to the 1 October 2017 deadline for the lodgement of protection applications for people who arrived by boat has been exceptional.

When the deadline was imposed, RACS ramped up services, providing assistance 7 days a week and 2 nights a week through its team of specialist lawyers, pro bono lawyers, volunteer interpreters and community organisations.

RACS have assisted more than 5,200 people seeking asylum with their applications for protection and provided 18,644 sessions to people seeking legal advice.
